This spread was really fun actually. I picked it to paint while I visited my parents over holiday break last year. I always curate what I work on when I visit them …. no people art, for instance. Absolutely none unless it’s drawn only at night. Animals in a crop of wheat is a thing my parents could recognize and identify with, so it was safe to paint. (When I go home for the holiday break, I have to go home for several weeks or else the flight is too expensive. So I work a lot while there.) 

I’ve never actually seen cotton! And until just recently, Amanda hadn’t seen wheat. There were some rolling fields of it between Raleigh and Baltimore, it was a windy day, the wheat was pretty mature but still green, and Amanda couldn’t figure out how that grass was rippling and shimmering so much as it was. (The mature heads on wheat have shiny petal bits, and the top heavy grain part makes it more reactive to wind than regular field grass.)
