Scanner Suggestions

Thu Jun 2, 2011, 2:07 PM
I think my scanner has finally died. o___o;

It has been my wonderful scanner since 2002! ;_; I will miss it so much! Even though I almost definitely cursed at it on occasion. XD My computer things were like some people and their cars in highschool. I worked annoying jobs and begged parents for money to buy my computer equipment.

But now, the scanner is scanning with weird color bands in its scans, and today, it will not scan at all. ;_; I've checked that the power and usb cords are plugged in correctly, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software - actually the software won't recognize that there is a scanner at all when I try to reinstall. >< Anything else I should check?

The computer is only a few years younger than the scanner, so I worry it is computer error, but more likely the scanner is the problem.

So, scanner suggestions? What do you use that you like?

Stuff I'm looking for in a scanner:
scans up to 1200 dpi
9 x 12 inch is fine, since bigger scanners are so expensive
This current scanner I have is really convenient in that it has these slightly raised edges around the glass scanning bed, so when I'm scanning a giant painting, I can line up a strait edge of the paper with the slight raised scanner edge.
But I guess a completely flat scanner could be modified to make me happy.

If you're curious, my current scanner that I'm fond of is by Hewlett Packard. 9 years of solid scanning satisfaction. XD

WHAT IS TOILET GENIE?
TG is a weekly webcomic that I draw, write, and publish. c: It is dark fantasy, currently rated 13+. The story follows a pug which discovers a genie living in a toilet. Through a series of odd events, the pug is turned into a woman. Before she can forfill her destiny (whatever that may be...) she must learn the story of how the genie came to live in the toilet.

WHEN DOES TG UPDATE?!
TG updates ~ Thursdays. But if the page is done early, it updates early. If the page would benefit from more time, it updates late.

COMMISSIONS/TRADES/FREE ART
I'm always interested in commissions, but I may turn them down if I'm cramped for time. Trades are a possibility, but unlikely. If you have to *ask* me for free art, chances are I will not give it to you.

Well... I have an HP Photosmart C4480, which is a scanner/printer/copier, but I don't like it that much. You can't scan anything larger than 9x12", and even though mine is only a few years old, I'm already having technical difficulties with it. :C

i like the epson perfection rage. i've had 2 scanners from this range (my boyfriend broke the first) and have adored both. its software is easy to use. professional mode goves you alot of control, you can scan up to 12800 dpi and its reasonably priced. the images are pretty sharp and oftern have to do barely any post work reds are often the colour i have to put back in which isnt that bad concidering. i infact only ever really tinker with things i intend to make into a print as the qulity for me is good enough for studies and sketches in its raw scan. my current one is the epson V350 it has that ridgy thing you like to help you line it up. hope this helps

I have an Epson Stylus NX110 combo printer/scanner, and I love it to death. It has the raised edges you were talking about. In actuality, ANY of the Epson scanners have proven pretty wonderful in my personal opinion. c:

The convenience of a scanner/printer is undeniable, yet I feel iffy. I can't even say why I feel iffy.

CLEARLY IF YOU ARE DUALPUPROSED, YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH NEITHER FUNCTION TO MY SATISFACTION. <~ my really flawed logic.

Hummm...Well I got a an Epson V 300 Photo and it works really nicely. I seriously want the one they had at school though (like Jess said that one was just made of awesome *_* )

I head a lot of good things about Canon as well so those would be my two choices.

hmmmm *rubs chin sagely* Well my scanner died but that was because the damn company stopped making the drivers for it beyond Windows XP...which was lame...but I have a good old brother scanner. Now I don't actually LIKE brother products because they are an arse to load and such but I have to admit this little sucker is pretty damn fly.

Generally if you want a good long term scanner. I'd suggest Canon, they make great stuff. Yet I'm not sure of the prices where you are ^^; they're definitely worth a perv.

Also, just as a plug-in, I've tried the smaller versions of the epson scanners at my college (its all they use), and they too scan very nicely. They're also not as bulky as the V700, and they scan at very high resolutions.
