Underworld Overworld Foil Poster by blix-it Underworld Overworld Foil Poster by blix-it
A poster with metallic foil on it. <3 YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH spamming the internet with this because I love it.

This poster is for sale on my etsy. Even if you can't manage to buy a poster or postcard, feel free to just follow my shop and fav a few things for later. ^^ Follows and favs help too.

Original pic is here.

I kind of love fancy printing! But it's so expensive to have produced, I've only managed to afford two posters with foil on them. I'd love to do more!

what category does fancy print design even go in. T___T I don't know.

:D I don't know if you remember, but I bought a whole bunch of prints from you at this year's Ohayocon, including two large, matted foil prints of your Underworld Overworld, one for my sister! We're so happy with them! I've been meaning to look you up on DA, and here I just stumbled in by accident! Glad to see you're doing well!

I feel the need to buy all your arts! I hope to buy more types of your work in different merch options. (mouse pads, coffee cups, magnets for my car to pimp your awesome-sauce, etc.)

Ahhh! I love this print. It always makes me want to buy it and then turn around and make a Sailor Moon Foil Print poster. D':

...maybe once my spring cons are done I'll be able to order it. (and make a sailor moon foil print poster...)

Well no one can fault you for dreaming big!

I think for this poster, I paid 1600$ for 500 copies, 8x24, 100lb gloss paper.

So, just, be aware.

O_O Thanks for the info...I can see why its so much.

...I'm probably going to put this scheme aside for the time being...or just make really really really small orders to test the waters. (small being like 2-5 copies; 500 copies is way more than I could sell or store at the moment) :/

hhhhhm I'm not sure what education you have in printing. ^^; But I want to try and explain to you a little of it. c: Maybe this info won't be helpful to you right now, but later on it could help you.

You're probably used to digital printing. Digital printing is when a computer sends a file to an inkjet or laser printer and out pops a poster! Digital printing is great for small runs (anything under 100) and digital printing almost always has no set up fees BUT it's less great at color accuracy and when you get over 100 posters it starts to become more cost effective to do offset printing.

Offset printing is where there are four "plates" created for C, M, Y, and K. A plate runs through a printing press, you've probably seen videos of printing presses. Like newspaper presses or something. The main benefit to me with offset printing is that it gets accurate blues like digital printing doesn't usually get. But the reason offset printing is only cost effective for a larger order are setup fees! You pay the printer to create the plates that will print the colors.

Sooooo .... now on to fancier things like foil printing. Foil printing involves an intricate die cut pattern. When I'm paying 1800$ for 500 18x24 foil posters, far and away the cost is NOT materials. The cost is setup fees to create the die cut and then labor to operate the die cut.

Considering all of that, if you wanted 2 or 3 foil prints, you would pay probably 1700$ in setup and labor fees. :B And that is why it only makes sense to do a foil print if you're going to print hundreds.

Interesting info, probably not too helpful right now, maybe helpful to you later, though I DO recommend Jakprints for digital printing as long as you're willing to pay some shipping. They get nice accurate colors with their digital prints.

Ooooh I am so tempted to pick up this one and Winter Wolf for my husband. His birthday isn't until August, but I'm sure I could hide it at the Framers until then....
