This painting is from spread 96/97 of TG.

They sort of embody what the Underworld and the Overworld are.

Overworld: a beautiful, shiny, graceful bird.
Underworld: a black hairy tooth monster.

Part of the reason I extended this chapter to be so HUGE was that Vidu and Sedna needed time to become close. They were kind of friends at first sight, friends forever. Nothing could break that bond. (Until something does, but that something is far away in another plot.)

This painting was accomplished first with watercolor, which didn't look right. 8( Then I began editing with pastel and colored pencil until finally it was ok. Then scan and photoshop for extra shiny effects. :B

Daniel Smith watercolors
Sennelier Pastels
Prisma Colored Pencils
and some good old fashioned Photoshop.

I really like the comparison of the underworld and overworld, the dark and the light. I also really like the style of the creatures. It seems really smooth and streamlined, maybe graceful is a good word. Very nice.

Some inspiring use of colour here to create mood. The creature designs are gorgeous, but I have to say what I love most is the way you've detailed and coloured the rocks. Lovely work!

The blend of sweeping action and quiet backdrop is so beautifully balanced . . . The softly blended watercolours in the back are gorgeous and the forefront of the scene has so much movement to it. It's simply fantastic ^_^
