I've done dozens of drawings and paintings associated with central Washington and its high desert areas, but I'd never painted a coyote. 8< So I painted a coyote before I moved to Baltimore.
In the valley basins, there are all sorts of butterflies. Big yellow and black striped ones, fat white ones, little brown and orange ones that blend in with tree bark. But away from the rivers and marshes, the butterflies get scarce except for one sort that seems to get more plentiful. Blue is a rare color in nature, but these little butterflies have nearly iridescent blue wings. They drift under sage brush shadows and look like pieces of the sky, they seem almost unnatural.
