What follows is a big for-the-sake-of-thought writing that you don't need to read:

I had a weird coloring epiphany/break down yesterday. It was free comic book day, I went and grabbed some free issues. I fatefully snagged the Onipress sampler which had Resurrection and Tek Jansen in it. BEST FREE COMIC BOOK DAY GRAB EVER. I've never been a huge fan of any of Oni's titles, I guess because I'd just not been confronted by THESE TWO YET. These two threaten to make me not only spend money, but also become a huge Onipress fan.

But anyway, the epiphany.

I grabbed also an... art book issue? Thing? Radical Comics put it out. It's not a comic, but it's comic shaped... which befuddles me. <~ I keep getting off topic. Anyway anyway. From my pedestrian perspective ... I guess it kind of looks like comic art [and art in general maybe?] Is taking a big sweeping digital movement towards extremely painterly, realistic styles.

I guess holding an issue of Onipress in one hand and a Radical Comics issue in the other made the universe collapse in on itself slightly, and I pondered briefly ... design verses color/rendering?

Because I'd say comics are very design oriented. What with panel borders and word balloons. A 'design' style with spotted blacks and hard lines seems to fit these comic standards better than a gorgeously rendered, painterly type thing. <~ But trends are moving more and more towards the painterly fantasy photo variety.

After all that thinking, I proceeded to color the way I always do, though with more on my mind. 9__9; But I upped the contrast some. The interior is now lighter than it realistically should be ... but if I were to pick a direction, design or color, I'd go design. There's beauty in both, clearly. I guess the reason I write all this is that I like intelligently thinking on it and knowing with my mind what I'm doing. [rather than just instinctively doing whatever.]

So that was my deep thought of the day. After that, I reverted back to my usual butts, boogers, and food thoughts.
